This is certainly one of my favorite shots, and hopefully demonstrates some of the immense natural beauty that can be seen at Loch Raven Reservoir. In this scene, a group of Canadian geese were swimming by in the lake while the setting sun’s rays illuminated a fallen tree and other parts of the foreground, giving them a luminous vibrance. I feel exceptionally fortunate that this image had such an amazing composition and turned out to be so well balanced. The foreground objects, including the tree in the center and left parts of the scene, the small group of grass on the bottom right, and the leaves in the upper right corner, were perfectly positioned, as if placed there just for the photo. Loch Raven has a peaceful and tranquil aura that accompanies its scenic landscape. At twilight it is really a special place that cannot be adequately captured in image or words. Nevertheless, shots like this one hopefully demonstrate that this fact does not preclude images from being captured that portray some of the reservoir’s sublime characteristics.
