The characteristic peaks of Machu Picchu stand out from the landscape. It is situated in a tropical region of the Andes and the surrounding mountains provide a nice backdrop to the unique scene of the protruding peaks and Inca ruins that cover the surrounding landscape. There is still some mystery regarding the site’s past, such as its primary use and why the Inca civilization abandoned the area, however there is no uncertainty that the vista is quite striking and unique. This particular image is framed by the clouds and mountains in the background, and by the golden-tinted rocks in the foreground that were illuminated by the late-day sun. Another aspect of this image that I like is the tonality, particularly the lighting on the mountains, which adds depth and mood.
