This photo was taken during a hike in the Masai Mara region of Kenya. We were accompanied by two armed guards for protection. We saw many animals, including antelope, a hyena who kept an eye on us for some time while walking through the region and calling out (presumably to other hyenas in the area), and this Burchel’s zebra. The land was mostly covered with parched, brown grass, but there was a lone acacia tree in the distance which made for a beautiful composition with the solitary zebra. The simple scene allows for the isolated zebra and acacia to stand out in a striking manner, which is why it is one of my favorite images.
