Cherry Springs State Park

Cherry Springs State Park is located in the northern region of Pennsylvania and is known for having a relatively low degree of light pollution. This rare quality makes it a great East Coast location for night sky observing. These images were taken during my only trip to the park, which is about a 4 and a half hour drive from where I live. I went with my brother in-law and we each took a tent to stay the night and observe the night sky late into the night. We arrived several hours prior to sunset which gave me a chance to walk around and take some shots of the area. There was a hydrogen-alpha telescope available for viewing the sun, which gives a very nice image of the filaments coming out of its surface. I did not take many images after the sun went down, as I was mostly observing the night sky with my own telescope. The sky cleared a couple hours after sunset and allowed for good viewing of deep sky objects and the Milky Way.
